Interview with Clasher Jennifer Comeaux

Good morning! Today we visit with Jennifer Comeaux, author of excerpt A.

Jennifer Comeaux earned a Master of Accounting from Tulane University and is a Certified Public Accountant in south Louisiana. While working in the corporate world, she sought a creative outlet and decided to put on paper a story that had played in her head for years. That story became Life on the Edge, her first published novel.

When not working or writing, Jennifer is an avid follower of the sport of figure skating, traveling to competitions around the country. Those experiences allow her to see another side of the sport and serve as inspiration for her writing. She would love to continue writing stories set in the figure skating world. Read more about Jennifer here.

I think you can learn a lot about people from the books they read. Jennifer, what was your top reading pick of the last year?

My favorite read of the last year was Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins. I thought it was a sweet, fun Young Adult read with very likable characters and a beautiful setting in Paris. I enjoyed Stephanie’s follow-up book, Lola and the Boy Next Door very much, also.

Cheater, that's two. ;-) So are you a Plotter or a Pantser?

I always thought I would be a plotter since I’m usually a very organized person, but I’m learning that I’m more of a pantser. I’ve tried plotting my next book, the sequel to Life on the Edge, and my outline is more of a mess of random thoughts than an organized structure!

Funny how different activities use different parts of our brains! When’s your favorite time to write?

My favorite time to write is late at night, in the dark with just the light from my laptop and music in my earphones. I think the darkness and the music help to block out everything except the story in my head.

I can relate since I'm easily distracted... SQUIRREL!! Just kidding! Okay, share something about the book that you think readers would like to know.

I gave myself a cameo in the book! I actually attended the 2001 U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Boston, an event in which my characters compete in the book, so I used one of my real-life experiences at the competition for a scene in the story. If you read the book, you’ll have to see if you can find my appearance!

Oh how fun!! I'd love to do that, lol. Ok, lastly tell me Who is your favorite character you’ve created and why?

My favorite character is Emily, the heroine in Life on the Edge, because she has such a strong moral center, and she gives all of her heart to the people in her life and also to her skating. She’s struggled with the mental aspect of skating, but she never stops working hard to achieve her dreams.

Awesome. Thank you for answering my questions, I wish you the best of luck in this Clash as well as your writing career in general. Do you have a question for our readers before we sign off?

Yes: Would you like to see more books in the “New Adult” genre–books with protagonists in the 18-25 age range?

Well readers, now it's your turn. Answer Jennifer's question in the comments below. One of you will win a book! Please come back on Wednesday when we hear from her competitor, Lynnette Bonner.
Make it a great day!
